Benefit Art Show Is A Success!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on December 28, 2010 by fenderbenderdetroit

Thank you so much to everyone who supported, participated and attended the event last Wednesday.  The entire night was a huge success and super fun. We were so glad to have the place packed and to see all the familar and new faces there.  A lot of unigue and wonderful artwork hung on the boards that night.  Many compliments came from those who attended about the quality of the works and lots of inquiries about the artists as well.  Our goal is to have the trailor, build it out, a biodeisel powered truck pulling it, 2 sets of the Park Tools advanced bike tool repair kits, a true stand and bike repair stand by June.  We are much closer to achieving this goal!  So thank you thank you thank you for deciding this is a worth while project and coming out that night.  We are excitted to be in your neighborhood soon!  HAPPY NEW!

Fender Bender Detroit Benefit Art Show!

Posted in Uncategorized with tags on December 19, 2010 by fenderbenderdetroit

December 22, 2010 7pm-midnight FBD is hosting a group art show at MCBW.  The show is comprised of many local Detroit artists works generously donated. There will be a variety of mediums and subject matter.  Half the pieces will be part of a silent auction and half will be sold as priced.  If you are unfamiliar with the silent auction style we will explain how to participate that night.  We are really enthusiastic to see all the creative works in one room and to have everyone there with it!   So come out for this interesting and unique event in celebration of art and people and of course BICYCLES as we pace towards the actualization of our mobile bike shop.

Not to mention the Soltice has begun…which means winter night time darkness is only getting lighter!

Complete Streets Initiative and Safe Routes to Schools

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , on December 16, 2010 by fenderbenderdetroit

Do you know about Safe Routes to Schools or Complete Streets Initiatives? Well you should! These two concepts could and are changing the face of how US cities function in the realm of transportation and mobility. Not to mention both philosophies reflect questions and thoughts about how our mode of transport and the paths we use to travel from one destination to another greatly impact how we relate to our communities. Have you ever thought about how different a city appears by bicycle vs. a car or other motorized vehicle? Think individual vs the collective. Or the indiviual vs community-mind. What are easy day-to-day ways that we can better connect with ourselves and our neighbors without totally restructuring our lives?
How can we become healthy active engaged members of our communities and be a part of the changes happening in Detroit and not only observers? Its true when they say there is strength in numbers. One way of getting to know the people who live in homes we pass by everyday and work in the businesses of our neighborhoods is to be out there creating a presence and acknowledging theirs. What better way to do that than on a bike (perhaps once the snow and sub freezing temps have passed). But don’t let that stop you either. You would be surprised how HOT you get biking in the winter if geared up with the proper attire.

I will post a link soon to the CSI and SRS (soon as I figure out how…still learning ha!)

Art Submissions Drop-off at MCBW

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on December 2, 2010 by fenderbenderdetroit

Hello again!

Thanks so much for all the inquiries on how to participate with the art show fundraising event. It is looking like it will be a fun and art filled night so we hope to see everyone there ready to have a good time and… buy art! All submissions can be dropped off to Sarah Sidelko at Motor City Brewing Works Mon-Fri 10am-4pm. Please try to email ahead or call the brewery to give me a heads up so I can expect you. Include your name, email and/or phone number, what materials or medium was used to create your piece and a little decsription of where the art came from or what inspired you. Also, we want to reasonably price the art so it is affordable but also so that the artist finds it a fair value for their work. So let us know what you think your art is worth so we have a starting point to go from when pricing things. Can’t wait to see all the creative contributions!

Thanks a lot and see you soon
